Green and Luxurious Gift Guide 2018
As we enter the month of December, gift-giving is in most people’s minds, for the upcoming holiday as well as work functions and exchanges with friends.
The reason I wanted to create a gift guide for you, is because I find that most people will be purchasing something at this time of year, and I’d love to show you how you can be purposeful and elegant about your spending.
Some people are not into the spirit of giving, and others are minimalists, and for them perhaps this list might not be relevant.
Even though I don’t consider myself a minimalist (yet), I only keep and buy things that are useful, that bring me joy, and that have a low impact on the planet. (Well, I strive for this is more like it).
And when it comes to gift-giving, I like to employ the same principles as I do when shopping for myself.
Selecting a Gift
The first rule of gift giving is giving something you think the recipient will enjoy (not necessarily what you personally like). However, the gift should still be aligned with your values, so find a compromise if needed.
So when choosing a gift, if you can pick something with the recipient in mind, that is also good for the planet and your budget, and aligned with your values, it’s a win-win for all!
If you find yourself in a situation where you don’t know the recipient very well, you may try a few things:
1. Gift Cards
They may seem impersonable, but if this is someone you don’t know at all or very little, it might be the best route when it comes to choosing a gift. You can give gifts cards for online shopping or experiences (see below for more details on this).
2. Something for the Home
A beautiful and fragrant soy candle, seasoned sea salts, specialty tea. All these things are useful and likely to be a hit. You just want to stay away from anything too personal, such as scented personal products, or home decor.
What is a Green and Luxurious Gift?
The way I define a green gift, is something that has all or some of the following elements:
– cruelty-free
– vegan
– eco-friendly
– sustainable
– organic
– fair-trade
– non-toxic and natural
– small carbon footprint
When it comes to a luxurious gift, this is what I have in mind:
– useful
– high quality
– handcrafted
– beautiful/ brings me joy
– brings ease and calm
– improves my health or mood
– activates my senses
– activates creativity and imagination
The Gift of Experiences
I believe experiences are a wonderful gift for others and yourself.
Museum passes, season tickets to the symphony and ballet, spa days and retreats are all examples of experiences that are a touch of luxury for anyone on your list.
What I Hope for You
I truly hope this gift guide is inspiring to you, and that it gives you ideas on what you can gift yourself and others this holiday season.
I always recommend things that I have tried and love, but I have to say that I have not tried all of the items on this list.
My criteria for selecting these gifts was that they were vegan and cruelty-free first, and I also chose them based on reviews and recommendations. Personally I think they all will make great gifts for anyone on your list, so I’m confident you will appreciate them too.
